Holiday Challenge

Holiday Challenge

The December Holiday Challenge was issued by Michael and Marissa Lester and family, in partnership with our youngest Carroll Park Climate Challenge member, Asher Ehrlich, age 8. Because we make more trash over the December holidays than any other time of year, this challenge is aimed at reducing that waste at the same time we make the holiday more fun, more joyous and more unique.

Michael and Marissa are carrying the starter kits made by CPCC members to spur waste-reducing creativity. A big thank you to kit-makers Carol Wetterhahn, Clare Workneh, Asher and Sara Ehrlich, Amy Koplovsky, Terri Moses, Isaac Sweeney and Liam Williams. Thank you to Debbie Rodriguez for lettering our beautiful December Holiday Challenge surfboard.

The Challenge

1. Wrap some of your presents in household items such as fabric, maps, old scarves, magazines and newspapers. Adorn with things like succulent cuttings, pictures from magazines, lone earrings, beautiful buttons, lace, etc. (one point per gift).

2. Make a gift yourself (one point per gift).

3. Support our local businesses -- especially on 4th Street -- through buying gift cards or merchandise (1 point per purchase).

Meet Asher Ehrlich, Environmentalist and Co-Challenger

Asher is wise beyond his years when it comes to reducing waste. Asher recommends that both children and adults make their own board games to give as presents. Having designed a super-creative board game himself, he knows how much fun it is to give and receive inventive gifts. He is pictured here with some of the items he and his mom helped to make for starter kits delivered this week to CPCC members.
